Checking out the Huawei P10
The P10 and P10 Plus came out in April, and continue to be Huawei’s flagship top tier phones designed to take on the likes of Apple and Samsung.
Their particular niche has been designing cameras that give their conventional counterparts a run for their money. To achieve this Huawei teamed up with Leica to coengineer the P9’s camera. Leica is partnering again on the P10 and they’ve really pushed the boundaries with a 20-megapixel monochrome sensor and a 12-megapixel RGB sensor. Selfie mode is alive and well with a front facing 8-megapixel camera.
Features that might be a little closer to home include the P10’s support of Te Reo Māori as a standardised language option, making it the first smartphone in the world to offer the option.
The HUAWEI P10 is sleek and slim for a comfortable hold at 6.98mm, with the camera window flush with the back of the device. Both models feature the latest Corning Gorilla 5 Glass protection and narrow bezel edges, while the HUAWEI P10 Plus has a 2K display for more detail.
The P10 is built around a 5.1″ screen while the Plus gets a 5.5″ with some added grunt and also include larger batteries for extended operation and offer 64GB + 4GB RAM of memory. getting into the nitty gritty the P Series is powered by a Kirin 960 System on a Chip (SoC), with optimised multicore performance and a GPU which delivers a 180 percent improvement in performance and a 40 percent increase in power efficiency over its predecessor.
I’ve never been won over by fingerprint sensors, but this one replaces the navigation bar and is located on the front of the phone, under one continuous pane of glass, making the screen view bigger, and packed with smart touch navigation gestures. So at least it won’t lie dormant on the back of the phone like it has with so many other models out there.
For the truly klutzy Huawei has you covered with a 3 month cover for any accidental screen damage you might give it along with a free nation-wide pickup and delivery service.
The P10 is priced at NZ$999, and the P10 Plus goes for NZ$1199.
