Man On The Street – Jared Smith

If you didn’t need money, what would you do?
“I’d still build. I’d build cars, build tree houses, build cool alternative structures. I am not one to be able to do nothing, I always find something to keep my hands busy” – This guy clearly loves his job.

Age: 28

Occupation: Owner of Round to It Construction and builder

What’s your morning routine?

Shower, clothes, coffee (3 sugars), work.

What’s the top three things on your bucket list?

Buy and rebuild a classic Dodge Charger, Visit Egypt to see the pyramids (as a builder the structures built by the ancient Egyptians fascinate me), Build a treehouse home.

What advice would you give your younger self?

None. I had a tough past but I wouldn’t change anything. It gave me a real sense of appreciation for success that I wouldn’t have had.

How do you stay motivated?

Do what you love and it’s easy! Building has always been a hobby for me so it has been a seamless transition turning that hobby into a career.

If you didn’t need money, what would you do?

I’d still build. I’d build cars, build tree houses, build cool alternative structures. I am not one to be able to do nothing, I always find something to keep my hands busy.

What is the secret to success?

Everybody’s definition of success is different. I believe the secret to success is knowing what success means to you and committing to that 100%.

What is the best bit of advice, or quote, that resonates with you?

A mentor of mine once told me to “always allow for twice the amount of time that you think a job will take, that way, if you finish early it’s a bonus rather than it being a disappointment if you finish late”. Definitely been the most useful piece of advice I’ve been given in the building industry.

What’s your favorite restaurant?

My girlfriend reading over my shoulder tells me “say it’s my girlfriends kitchen”. She’s an excellent cook, but I won’t lie, I’m a sucker for some greasy KFC chicken.

What is the secret of living a longer, more successful life?

For me it all comes down to family, time and experiences. Money is great, but success is having time to enjoy it. That, I believe, is what keeps us young.

What makes you feel alive?

My children. Of course, a stiff drink in the evening and cold shower in the morning helps as well.
Beautiful!
