A word with Business Solution Advisor Varun Gupta

Occupation: Business Solution Advisor (MBA and CA)
Age: 35

What’s your morning routine?
My ideal morning is spending the first two hours doing the things I love.
Starts with meditation, being grateful about all the positive things in my life, journaling my thoughts and ambitions, listening to some audiobooks then exercise followed by my protein superfood smoothie. After this, I am ready to tackle anything that comes my way.

What are the top three things on your bucket list?
Climb Mount Kilimanjaro, learn how to dive and travel the world doing so, run the London and New York marathon in the same year.

How do you stay motivated?
I try and stop thinking about my problems and focus on appreciating life along with the blessings that I take for granted.
Secondly, I try to do things that make me forget to check my phone.

What is the secret to success?
I believe that success occurs when your dreams are more significant than your excuses. ‘One’s will has to be stronger than the skill.’
Motivation is what gets you started; habit is what keeps you going.

What is your advice for people to fund their dream?
If you want your dreams to come true, the first thing you have to do is to wake up. If you don’t build your dreams, then you will be working for someone to build theirs. You are one decision from a different life.

What’s your favourite restaurant?
Cassia by Sid Sahrawat in Fort Street, Auckland.

How do you keep up to date with current affairs?
I love using the Flipboard app. It tailors the news according to what I want to read about.

What is the secret of living a longer, more prosperous life?
Utopia, Shangri-la, Nirvana and heaven are just a state of mind, not a place to visit. Embrace the concept of the three R ’s: rest, recovery and reflection. These are essential parts of the progress towards a successful and ultimately happy life.
The grass is not greener on the other side, its greener where you water it. I always thought I would be happier if I moved countries, changed jobs and attained material possessions. It’s only lately I have discovered that I have all the seeds I need to water to manifest a happy life.

What makes you feel alive?
Meeting new people from different walks of life, experiencing new cultures and going on adventures around the world with my partner. ‘Travelling makes you realize how small your problems are and makes the spirit come alive.’
