When you think of utopian, futuristic mega towns, you tend to think of cities in the sky and flying cars. The United Nations have recently partnered up with private firm, Oceanix, MIT and American-based society, The Explorers Club to create the future on the water.
Forget about Atlantis. Welcome to Oceanix City – the first fully sustainable island-like hexagonal platforms that are going to act as islands. It is expected, if built, to be able to house up to 300 people per platform. That’d mean that approximately 10,000 people would fit on these islands.
The city is going to be designed to withstand agressive weather and be self containing with its agriculture and ‘farming platform’. Is this the UN’s answer to the impending result of climate change, or is this another way of expanding the world?
