Man Made & Nature, Things Worth Seeing
Grand Prismatic Spring, in Yellowstone National Park, United states
The Grand Prismatic Spring in Yellowstone National Park is the largest hot spring in the US, and the third-largest in the world, after our very own Frying Pan Lake in New Zealand and Boiling Lake in Dominica.
The vivid colours in the spring are the result of microbial mats around the edges of the mineral-rich water.
Shilin Stone Forest, yunnan province, China
Covering an area of 300 square kilometres, Kunming’s stone forest is an otherworldly landscape of rock formations caused by the erosion of limestone, believed to be well over 270 million years old. These massive pillars create a labyrinth of feature caves, waterfalls and lakes, as well as an impressive underground river.
James Webb Space Telescope Primary Mirror Prepared for Testing at Johnson Space Center
The towering primary mirror of NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope stands inside a cleanroom at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, where it will undergo its last cryogenic test before it is launched into space in 2018. In preparation for testing, the “wings” of the mirror (which consist of the three segments on each side) were spread open. This photo shows one fully deployed wing, and one that is moments from being fully deployed. An engineer observes the move.
The James Webb Space Telescope is the world’s most advanced space observatory. This engineering marvel is designed to unravel some of the greatest mysteries of the universe, from discovering the first stars and galaxies that formed after the big bang to studying the atmospheres of planets around other stars. It is a joint project of NASA, ESA (the European Space Agency) and the Canadian Space Agency.
Boundary-pushing Yachts
There is nothing more 007 than sailing across the open water in a yacht that boasts speed and style. The RAND Sport is like no other in its field or on the ocean. Distinguishing itself from tradition, the RAND Sport 26 pushes the boundaries with clever and functionalist yacht design. As captain, you can navigate your 12 passengers through coastal and open waters, shielded behind a vacuum-infused shell and extra-large windscreen. The yacht also has a full high-end luxury kit-out, including a full-size double bed cabin, full outdoor kitchen and barbecue, fully automated Bimini top, bathing ladder and anchor operated by touchscreen control. The RAND Sport 26 is an addition to the vastly popular 18-foot tender and RAND Picnic, boats that also rethink inherent yacht design. Despite all of this power, the RAND Sport 26 is sustainable, with lightweight construction. This is fundamental not only for the boat’s superior performance, but also its low consumption of fuel or electricity, depending on the engine selection. The first batch of RAND Sport 26s are set to float out to RAND Boats’ private customers and dealership networks in Europe, the US and Australia from August 2017.
