Man On The Street – Sajeil Naiker

Age: 37
Occupation: Managing Director of Fire Corp Industries & Ladycare Services
What’s your morning routine?

Starts off with a session at the gym or on other days chatting with the family in bed over coffee and milk. Both the boost I need to tackle the day.

What advice would you give your 20 year-old self?

Keep your head in all circumstances. Try and experience everything and don’t be shy to ask for opportunities.

If you didn’t need money, what would you do?

Travel around the world, staying in each town long enough to experience life as a local.

How do you stay motivated?

Taking care of my health, but also my mental health through spending time at leisure with my family. It keeps me motivated and centred to what’s most important to me.

What is the secret to success?

A combination of good luck and hard work. Focus on the latter as the harder you work, the luckier you are likely to get.

What is the worst mistake you’ve made and how did you fix it?

I am terrible at buying presents for special occasions in a timely fashion, despite my genuine intentions to do so. My wife is working on fixing me!

What is your advice for people to fund their dream?

Whatever your dream, big or small, be prepared to sacrifice to get what you want.

What is the best bit of advice, or quote, that resonates with you?

“Try not to become a person of success, but rather try to become a person of value.” – Albert Einstein

How do you keep up to date with current affairs?

Mike Hosking and NZ Herald keep me well informed.

What is the secret of living a longer, more successful life?

Constantly reflect on what makes you happy and realign your priorities and actions accordingly.

What makes you feel alive?

My wife and kids – I absolutely adore them.
