Must Watch Movies List – July 2017
After a month of big movies like Wonder Woman and Transformers: The Last Knight, July shows no signs of slowing the tempo.
Marvel keeps the pace with its next step in the Marvel Universe with Spiderman, while War for the Planet of the Apes brings the third movie in the Apes Trilogy. But the question is, after box office flops like Alien: Covenant, are audiences getting a little franchise fatigue?
To that end we’re highlighting Baby Driver, which brings a fresh face to the cinema block.
Dunkirk
Director Christopher Nolan comes off the back of his sci-fi epic, Interstellar to tell an epic story a little closer to home. Dunkirk follows the real-world events where 400,000 Allied troops get surrounded and literally driven into the sea by the Axis powers troops. With no navy to support them, the Allies have to rely on fleets of weekend sailors to bring them home.
While the film switches between many viewpoints in the conflict, Tom Hardy gets his time to shine as Farrier, a pilot in the RAF.
Also watch out for Harry Styles, of all people.
Spider-Man: Homecoming
Following on from Captain America: Civil War, Spider-man, who’s been rebooted twice now, gets his own movie wrapped with the Marvel cinematic universe. Watched over by Tony Stark Peter Parker must try and integrate his new role as a super-hero with that of his regular life. The Vulture provides the punching bag in this movie.
War for the Planet of the Apes
Third movie in the modern franchise, the apes march their way toward their inevitable destiny of running the world. The war is now full-blown and this is a no-holds-barred fight for control of the planet. Will the humans lose? Find the spoilers to this question in a movie released in 1968.
Baby Driver
Personal pick this month, Baby Driver is going to be packed with all the comedy quirks we’ve come to expect from director Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, The World’s End). A young getaway driver tries to extract himself from a heist gone wrong, but things just keep getting wronger.
