Greg Cross is the Co-Founder of Soul Machines, a ground-breaking high tech company of AI researchers, neuroscientists, psychologists, artists and innovative thinkers; re-imagining how we connect with machines. Greg also co-founded PowerbyProxi a company that was sold to Apple in 2017.

 

What is your morning routine?

Up at 4:30 am, early calls to Northern Hemisphere, Meditation, then workout.

What hours do you work?

The ones I’m not sleeping – most days, most of the time.

What do you do in a typical day at work?

No typical day – they are all different. I spend a huge amount of time traveling all over the world and I do my best to keep the start and end of the day consistent.

Why do you think a lot of businesses fail to seize the future?

It’s easier not to think about it, they like their comfort zone.

What should businesses do to start opening their eyes to the future opportunities?

Disruption is real, AI changes everything you have ever assumed about competitive advantage.

Over the next 5 years, what industries in New Zealand do you see having the most exciting opportunities?

Really hard to say, hopefully we see some of industries wake up to the threat and the opportunity before it really is too late.

What process do you use to work on complex problems?

Smart people, rigorous debate, best possible assumptions, prove or disprove quickly, repeat the process.

What are the most important traits and skills for potential employees?

Asking questions, assuming nothing, creative problem solving, hard work, persistence, having a voice.

What is the biggest hurdle for your business?

Finding a better crystal ball.
